Lake County Diamonds

These are Lake County Diamond aka "Moon Tears" - They are a semi precious stone, not real diamonds (7.5 - 8 on the Moh hardness scale while diamonds are 10) but of volcanic origin. They are only found near Mt. Konocti, (extinct volcano) in Lake County, California, USA and nowhere else in the world. They can be faceted and have a brilliance and clarity similar to real diamonds.
According to one Indian legend, a Pomo Indian Chieftain and the Moon fell in love. The moon could not stay with the Chieftain because she was needed by the people to light the night sky and mark the seasons. She was so sad to leave the Chieftain that she wept “Moon Tears” which became Lake County diamonds.
