Shells At Crystals, Rocks and Gems

Cultured Pearls HealingShell HealingFreshwater Pearl Healing

Pearls, just as amber, jet, fossils, mother of pearl, and other substances used in magic, is the product of a previously living creature. Some believe that due to the fact that the oyster must die to remove the pearl, that there is a heavy debt incurred by those who engage in trafficking pearls, as well as those who wear and use them. The choice is yours...you will know intuitively whether you can use them or not.
Pearls are intimately connected to the moon, so much so so that some will wear or use them only at night, during the moon's domain.

Pearls help one connect with the Goddess, the ultimate feminine energy. They are absorbing by nature and because of this they must be used with caution. If feeling excessively negative while wearing a pearl, it will hold that energy until it is worn again.

If using peals with other gemstones consider diamonds to amplify and purify, or emeralds to bring the negative energy out and disperse it. Cleanse often to allow to recharge.

The Power Of Pearls Throughout Mythology
Pearls have long been attributed with having great powers, and have been incorporated into the mythology of virtually every culture that has encountered them. And no wonder! Given natural pearls' rarity, as well as their mysterious beauty, who could argue that pearls might not indeed be a gift from the gods?

Different Pearl Myths In Different Cultures
In Hindu culture, pearls were associated with the Moon and were symbols of love and purity. Hindu texts say that Krishna discovered the first pearl, which he presented to his daughter on her wedding day.

Pearls In Islamic Mythology
Islamic tradition holds pearls in even higher regard. The Koran speaks of pearls as one of the great rewards found in Paradise, and the gem itself has become a symbol of perfection.

Pearls In Christianity
Christianity also adopted the pearl as a symbol of purity. Many of these ideas have come down to us in pearl lore and legend, and persist even today. For example, pearls are often associated with brides and weddings -- a concept possibly dating all the way back to Krishna and the wedding of his daughter. Pearls are also said to symbolize tears, to provide love and fertility, to symbolize purity, and to ward off evil.

The Medicinal Power Of Pearls In Mythology
In addition -- and perhaps deriving from their mythological significance -- pearls have often been attributed medicinal qualities and used to treat a wide variety of physical ailments.

Color In Pearl Mythology
The colors of pearls also have sometimes been associated with certain qualities: black or gold with wealth, blue with love, pink with success.

Pearls Have Long Been Used In Medicine
Pearls have been used for their medicinal value, since their earliest discovery by man. Interestingly enough, the modern pharmaceutical industry continues to use pearls in medicine. In particular, pearls that are of inferior quality and cannot be used in jewelry are ground into a fine powder and used to prepare high-quality pharmaceutical calcium.

The Many Different Ways Pearls Have Been Used As Medicine
From ancient China and India to medieval Europe and Arabia - and in almost every culture in between - pearls have been used for medicinal purposes, ranging from aphrodisiacs to cures for insanity. Pearls could simply be worn as jewelry for their curative powers, or they could be ground up and made into potions, balms, and salves used to treat a wide variety of ailments and conditions. One legend said that a pearl placed in the navel could cure stomach disorders.

A Pearl For Whatever Ails You?
The pearl's surface luster is critical. Luster measures the brilliance and reflectivity of a pearl. The more brilliant and mirror-like the surface of the pearl is, the higher its quality. A dull or chalky surface indicates an inferior pearl.

Mother Of Pearl Healing

Mother of Pearl gets its name from the fact that it is the iridescent lining of shell, where pearls can grow. Mother of Pearl has both traditional and New Age metaphysical and healing lore. It is said to attract prosperity. It is used in mystical work and lore to heighten intuition, psychic sensitivity, and imagination. It is purported to protect from negative influence, and transmute negative energy. It is said to be highly protective and a particularly potent stone of protection for children. A traditional lore use of Mother of Pearl is to purify environments. Mother of Pearl is also used in metaphysics to access primordial and racial memories. Crystal healing and folklore say that Mother of Pearl is helpful for high blood pressure, dizziness, improving vision, cataracts, and wound healing.

Cultured PearlsCultured Pearls   It is told that drinking pearl water regularly over a long period of time will stabilize the production of hormones in the body.
Chronic headaches and migraines may be alleviated or completely cured by wearing a pearl necklace directly on the skin.

Pearls also help to reduce allergies. They are said to help in the treatment of stomachaches, colds, bronchitis and lung infections.

Saltwater Pearls:  Traditionally, most pearls were gathered from saltwater-dwelling mollusks in the Persian Gulf, the Red Sea and the coastal waters of India and Japan. These saltwater pearls were referred to as marine pearls. Natural saltwater pearls are still found, but the yield is too small to account for any significant market share.  Today, any pearls cultured in mollusks inhabiting saline waters are considered saltwater pearls. The three most common types of saltwater pearls are akoya pearls, Tahitian pearls, and South Sea pearls.   Saltwater cultured pearls tend to be more round than freshwater cultured pearls. This is due to the fact that saltwater mollusks are universally bead nucleated. Unless the saltwater pearl is a keshi pearl, it will have a bead core.

Mabe Pearl Healing

Mabe Pearls From The South Seas

A mabe pearl is a hemispherical shaped pearl which is grown against the inside of the oyster's shell, rather than within its tissue. Mabes occasionally appear in nature.
Mabe Pearls Develop On The Shell
Cultured mabes are grown intentionally, by using a hemispheric nucleus, rather than a round one; and by implanting it against the oyster's shell, rather than within its tissue. The pearl then develops in a hemispheric form, with a flat back. While in the oyster a mabe pearl is actually considered a blister pearl not a mabe pearl.

Abalone Healing

Abalone Shells

Holding a piece of abalone shell may make you feel: love, beauty, gentleness, caring, comfort, peacefulness, delight, solace, sand, water. Abalone Shell has the colors of the ocean in it, blues, greens, purples and yellows. It is soft to the touch from repeated tumbles in the sand and water. It has slight ripples on it like the patterns left in the sand as the waves lapse over it. It is comforting to hold it and rub the softness like you would a worry stone. People are instantly taken with its beautiful colors. To look at it brings me instantly to the ocean. For those of you who have never been to the ocean, buy a piece of it, and bring a little piece of the ocean to you.

Abalone shell is used for patterns of liver heat with such symptoms as headache, dizziness, spasms of the limbs, and various conditions of the eyes.  Abalone strengthens the structure of the body and the functions of the heart chakra. Both pearl and abalone shell hold the same divinatory meaning

Used by athletes to help build and protect muscle tissue. Also benefits the heart and helps in digestion. Nicknamed the sea ears, the Abalone’s flattened, oval shape with iridescent interior was used by the Native Northwest American Indians as a natural vessel for cleansing, offerings and prayers.

Conch Pearls, The Pearl That’s Not Really A Pearl, in the Technical Sense
Conch pearls (pronounced "konk") contain no nacre, so technically they are not actually pearls at all. Instead, the gems are calcareous concretions, similar to kidney stones in humans. They are produced by the Queen conch mollusk (Strombus gigas), which lives primarily in the Caribbean near southern Florida.
