The Tarot is a deck of cards that originated over 500 years ago in northern Italy. Although the Tarot was first used in a game called Triumphs, it was quickly adopted as a tool for divination, and popularized by occult societies such as the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. The early Tarot symbolism was deeply rooted in Medieval and Renaissance Europe, but over the centuries it has grown to incorporate everything from Astrology and Kabala to Runes (which predate the Tarot by 1000 years) and the I Ching (which predates the Tarot by 2500 years). Today, the Tarot is far and away the most popular tool for spiritual introspection in the West.  Choosing A Tarot Deck - Suitable For You
In tarot it doesn't matter what cards you use. You do not have to use tarot designed cards; you can use ordinary playing cards. When choosing a pack do not go by price or quality; go by instinct of which you feel drawn to. Your cards are your friends; the pack of cards usually reflects you; for example, colorful, bold, strong.
There are so many types of tarot cards available; different colors, shapes and sizes. Personally I'd say keep away from the themed tarot cards (dragon tarot, unicorn tarot, witches tarot.) until you are used to the standard tarot deck.
Rider Waite seems to be the most popular tarot deck, yet you may feel drawn to a different set; just go for what ever you feel happy with.
When storing them it’s wise to keep them in material; if possible purple velvet; I do not advise keeping them in their boxes, yet you can if you wish. Do whatever you feel drawn to do.
Most tarot books come with introduction booklets saying how to use your tarot cards and giving a brief introduction to them.

Reading The Decks
Traditionally it takes two people to do a tarot reading; one who is the seeker (someone who seeks answers), this person shuffles the cards; then there is also the reader, the person who deals and interprets the cards.
The way to start reading cards is to know the meanings for the individual cards as there are so many spreads (ways to place the cards) and so many different decks; that assigning a meaning for each possible outcome would be impossible. The more you work with a particular deck, the stronger your connection to that deck will be.
There are many spreads for the cards; the two which I've found easiest are the 12 card spread and the Celtic cross spread.
 

What is the difference between tarot cards and oracle cards?

A tarot has the structure of 22 major cards and 4 suits with 4 courts and 10 minors. This is usually how a tarot is "built".
An oracle has a non-fixed number of cards, varying from 36 (or less?) to 200 (or more?) and is not so much subject to a structure that is universal to the decks. Here each deck has its own built-up and system.
Other than that, they are similar. Actually I use tarot like i would an oracle - pulling a card or a few and see what they tell me. It all depends on the methods you use (Lenormand Oracle cards have a spread where you use the whole deck, for example) and your very personal preferences

The subtitle on the box says, Based upon the Esoteric Workings of the Secret Order of the Golden Dawn. Which was the same outfit that A.E. Waite & Aleister Crowley belonged to. While the art in Waite's tarot was largely the work of Pamela Coleman-Smith, the art in Crowley's tarot was his own invention. For various reasons it is hard to know exactly which of the three decks was created first, but an astute observer will find an echo of Crowley's Magician (the one Crowley eventually settled on, at any rate) in the Hermetic Magician, above. One will doubtless find other similarities among the three decks.
The instructions with the deck are esoteric in nature. They give a sketch of astrological significators & show relationships between cards & occult concepts. Neither the cards, nor the instructions, are intended for casual fortune-telling.

Comments: The first new round deck in many years, and, if I am not mistaken, the first round deck from Lo Scarabeo. Round decks tend to force a round card design, some of which I found difficult to read (Pages, in particular). As the deck is round, there is no "upright" or "inverted", only infinite shades of not quite. An astute reader can use the angle to judge just "how much" or "how effective" any card might be. If, for example, the first card in the series signifies the querent himself, then its angle tells us how aware, how much attention he is giving to the reading itself. In this sense, we would look at the angle of the cards the same way we would look at a volume control knob: There's a minimum volume, a maximum volume, and everything in between.

The deck appears to be a reproduction of a 19th century French deck, but the notes enclosed with the deck give no information as to its origins. Each of the original cards has a French title or phrase at bottom center. The Italian, Spanish, English & German keywords, in the four corners, are based on it, though I think the original French are best of all.

Comments: In the Introduction, we learn the artist, Roxi Sim, undertook the project as art therapy after the deaths of her mother, and her 9 year old son, and the subsequent loss of her own health, all in the year 2000. That's a lot of tragedy. The artist says that art therapy works, and I would agree. Regrettably, art for yourself, and art for the public, therapy for yourself, and cards for the public, are not the same things. These cards repay study, but you must study them. I particularly liked the Death card: Stepping from a dark, unhappy world, into one full of light & joy. That's a first-rate concept.

Thirteen Moons Spread

Lay out thirteen cards, with the intention that each card will represent one of the year's full moons. A full moon represents the culmination or fulfillment of some matter, so you would get out your calendar, find the date of each full moon, and interpret the corresponding cards as representing things that will have materialized or influences that will be strongly felt around those particular dates. Because of the way that the thirteen moons of the year are squeezed into our twelve-month solar calendar, in most years there is one month that will contain two full moons (but it is a different month each year). The second full moon of that month is sometimes referred to as the "blue moon." Take note of which of your thirteen cards represents that blue moon, because it might have a special, magical quality to it. An additional advantage of using this spread is that it helps you become more aware of the lunar cycles.

For example, someone having the Hermit as a primary soul card may find that by better understanding the energies of the Death card, they can begin to release all those things in their life that do not support their ability to turn inward and reflect, and then reflecting their wisdom and knowledge back into the world for others to share. Someone who has The Lovers as a primary soul card may find that their relationships are a direct reflection of several of the other card energies that they need to embrace and understand more fully. They may at one point attract a "Magician" and at another point, "The Hanged Man or Woman", someone who is very hung up on relationship issues. By being aware and working with the energy of the primary soul card as well as the other archetypes the person is attracting, they can more easily find resolution and solutions to life's challenges.

To find your own primary soul card you can use the following method: Sit quietly and breathe in the energy of Divine Light and Radiance. When you feel calm and peaceful, fan out the 22 cards of the major arcana face down. Using your dominant hand, skim lightly over the backs of the cards and do your best to sense the energy coming from each one. Do not rush this process! Take your time and really allow yourself to move through this process. You may feel that one card especially feels warm to you or makes your hand tingle. You may feel a rush of energy moving through your heart chakra or your third eye chakra that tells you which card is the right one. Allow yourself to feel what ever you are feeling and don't judge it! When you have reached the correct card, you may feel a sort of "click" inside yourself, a sense of YES! This is the one! Now turn this card face up. Which one is it? Please bear in mind that no one card is any better than another! If you have chosen a "difficult" card such as The Devil, be aware that this does NOT mean you are a horrible, evil person! Chances are good that instead you are a very advanced, sensitive and gentle soul. You may have felt you have been a scapegoat all of your life and now you have the chance to heal this energy in your lifetime and thus help the world to heal from this energy as well! The Devil is also a trickster card, it may be that you have come into this lifetime to wake others up, to rattle their cages so they can liberate themselves. What could be more Divine than the liberation of the true expression of the Soul! For centuries there have been pat explanations given as to what each card "means". Now you have the opportunity to go beyond the pat answers and see the Divine expression that you are carrying in this lifetime. While from time to time others may be able to help you gain insights and ideas into what your primary soul card may mean for you, ultimately this is a journey that you yourself must undertake alone. There are no right or wrong answers. There is only your own inner exploration.

Each of the following essences is produced to help you navigate the personal soul maps that each card of the major arcana holds for you. While I would suggest that upon discovering your own personal primary soul card that it be the essence you begin to work with first, always follow your own inner guidance! It may be that at this time in your life your real need is for The Star or The Hierophant. Later you may find that you do desire to work with the essence that relates to your soul card.
